Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China located on the southern coast of the country, bordered by the South China Sea. It comprises a peninsula and several islands, with the most notable being Hong Kong Island and Lantau Island. Known for its vibrant city life, Hong Kong is a major global financial center, renowned for its skyscrapers, deep natural harbor, and rich cultural heritage. The region has a unique blend of Eastern and Western influences, a result of its colonial history as a British territory until 1997 when it was handed back to China under the principle of “one country, two systems.” This framework allows Hong Kong a high degree of autonomy, particularly in legal and economic matters, although there have been significant political tensions regarding this governance. Additionally, Hong Kong is famous for its culinary scene, shopping districts, and iconic landmarks such as Victoria Peak and the Star Ferry.
